The new UNI 8065 standard, updated in 2019, defines how water should be treated in winter and summer air conditioning systems for the production of domestic hot water and in thermal systems in order to enhance the overall efficiency of the household system, reduce environmental impact, and lower energy consumption.
To achieve these results, the water flowing through the pipes and then directed into the condensing boilers and subsequently to the devices connected to it must meet specific chemical and physico-chemical characteristics, which can be achieved through the installation of certain water treatment devices, including:
- water softener
- safety filter
- dirt separator filter
- dosing filter
Does the same rule apply to systems with a heat pump?
Certainly, the same UNI 8065 standard also applies to modern systems with heat pumps, as it addresses the quality of water used in systems for winter and/or summer air conditioning and/or for the production of domestic hot water, with a maximum temperature of 110°C, as well as in solar thermal systems for winter and/or summer air conditioning and/or for the production of domestic hot water.
What is mandatory to install?
For air conditioning systems with a heat pump, as with condensing boilers, the installation of a dirt separator filter on the closed circuit is mandatory. Its function is to separate dirt and, thanks to the magnet inside, capture ferrous particles present in the water that could damage the devices connected to the system.
The standard also requires the installation of a chemical dosing device, such as polyphosphate dosing filters, which are scale inhibitors that stabilize the hardness of domestic hot water and prevent the formation of deposits and limescale.
